Here are few great spots that the Wenatchee
Valley and surrounding areas have to offer
Columbia Breaks Fire and Interpretive Center, This is really a unique and educational hike, its not a very long hike but full of information about wild fires and how the forest slowly rebuilds it's self and the efforts made to help minimize large fires, Most of the hike is very easy and there is just a moderate climb up to one of the lookout towers,(but that climb can be by bypassed), You will find this great adventure about one mile north of Entiat on 97A for more info go to
Wild Fire Center
Rocky Reach Dam, While traveling SR97A to or from Lake Chelan,
This museum, park and visitors center is a must, its a great stop for a break and to play in the park with the kids then take a stroll through the beautifully manicured gardens on your way inside to the visitors center for an under ground view of the salmon or steel head making their way up the ladder through the dam, then just a short walk takes you over to the museum and observation lookout where you can view the dam at work. For more info go to www.chelanpud.org/visitor-center.html
Cashmere Pioneer Village and Museum,Cashmere is only about 10 minutes from Wenatchee and it is a beautiful little town with this great pioneer village museum, they have about 20 original pioneer buildings that you can walk inside and get a first hand view of how our ancestors lived, this village is all outside so come prepared (with water on hot days). Once you've experienced the village the museum continues on inside with two floors of great exhibits. And the last few times we visited they had a treasure hunt available for kids,(great idea). The museum is easy to find its straight of hwy 2 in Cashmere, look for the signs. And have fun. Address is 600 Cotlets Way, Cashmere, for more info on Cashmere Cashmere Pioneer Village
Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center , This museum is a fun one for the kids too, they have a fun toy train that runs on a great track that the kids can chase back and forth (for a quarter, so bring lots), along with the kids room all about wildlife this is great fun for the kids and then take a step back in time in an old town, with old cars and wagons too and lots of fun for the whole family, there is lots more to see and do so make sure you make this a stop on your vacation to Wenatchee. for more in go t o Wenatchee Valley Museum
Big Horn Sheep, While you journey to or from the Lake Chelan Area along highway 97A be on the look out for a number of different herds of Big Horn Sheep, especially between mile posts 120 and 135 For more info on the big horn sheep in this western Washington area go to Big Horn Mountain Sheep
Ohme Gardens, these gardens are a must see there is one mile of pathways made of native stone winding through a beautiful alpine oasis overlooking Wenatchee. While strolling the gardens you'll see waterfalls and pools, the trials are sometimes steep but take is slow and enjoy the gardens and the valley from a prime view.
Make sure to pack a lunch as there are picnic areas which are a great retreat for those hot summers days.
The gardens are usually open April 15th to October 15th. But for more info go to http://www.ohmegardens.com/
Rock Hounding at Red Top Mountain,(Agates, Crystals and Geodes)
From I-90 take hwy 97 toward Wenatchee then take a left right past mineral springs camp ground on forest service road number 9738, follow that till it t's (at the sign) and take a left to red top about for about 3 miles, this part of the road is bumpy but well worth the drive.
This rock hounding spot is a fun one, there is a nice camp ground at the parking area, and it looks like your up on top of the world then after just about a 1 mile hike you get to the Agate beds with piles of agates to be found ( if you have kids its a good hike for them, a little narrow in parts but take it slow), follow the trail further then the first beds and you come to spots to find geodes and crystals.
